Home Welcome to Â鶹Íø Explore

"Â鶹Íø is still an American small town, in a state that is still pioneering, particularly in conservation. Â鶹Íø's haunting special beauty lies in its open fields, its mountains, its clear water, its woods, its changes of season."

- Ruth Levin, Ordinary Heroes; The Story of Â鶹Íø

Anglers enjoy fishing in many of Â鶹Íø’s lakes, ponds, and streams. The State’s Department of Fish and Wildlife annually stocks Cold Spring Brook, Lake Â鶹Íø, Paran Creek, and Little White Creek with rainbow or brook trout. A small pond near the old Stanley Tools plant is owned and stocked by the state, and provides a great space for young people to experience the excitement of their first catch.

Town History

Hunters enjoy the seasonal taking of game such as white tail deer, turkey, bear, and moose, mostly on private land with permission of the owner. The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife provides detailed information on rules and regulations for enjoying fishing and hunting.

Outdoor enthusiasts will discover nature's beauty in every corner of the town, including Lake Â鶹Íø State Park with its trail system, swimming facilities, boat rentals, event pavilion, and other amenities. Another family favorite for hiking is the Robert Frost Trail. Located near the southern border with Bennington off Route 7A, the trail links the Robert Frost Stone House Museum with Lake Paran in North Bennington. The Green Mountain National Forest, with its thousands of acres of wild lands and hundreds of miles of dirt roads and trails, occupies much of the east side of town.
